ADAPTING MEASURES IN CROSS-CULTURAL RESEARCH
ADAPTING MEASURES IN CROSS-CULTURAL RESEARCH It is often the practice of psychological researchers to have some method to quantify what they are doing. With quantification, subsequent research can add, change, and correct the data. Questionnaires, inventories, and surveys are frequently used to obtain data. The researcher has to encode what is collected. To control for some of the problems entailed in the development, adaptation, administration, docu- mentation, scoring, and interpretation of data, the Ethnic Research———201International Test Commission (ITC) has provided guidelines for adapting psychological and educational tests for different linguistic and cultural groups. The ITC consists of national psychological associations, test commissions, and publishers and organizations involved in the proper development, evaluation, and uses of educational and psychological instruments. Their guidelines are divided into four categories: con- text; test development and adaptation; administration; and documentation/score interpretations
